The premise

Desperate for companionship, the repressed Willard befriends a group of rats that inhabit his late father's deteriorating mansion. In these furry creatures, Willard finds temporary refuge from daily abuse at the hands of his bedridden mother and his father's old partner, Frank. Soon it becomes clear that the brood of rodents is ready and willing to exact a vicious, deadly revenge on anyone who dares to bully their sensitive new master.

Horror Vault's take

Crispin Glover delivers an electrifying performance as Willard, a deeply repressed and socially tormented man who discovers an unlikely kinship with a colony of rats living in his decaying family estate. Crushed beneath the weight of a domineering mother and a tyrannical boss, Willard nurtures his rodent companions into something far more dangerous than pets. This remake of the 1971 cult classic leans into psychological dread, building a portrait of a misfit pushed past his breaking point. Expect atmosphere thick with unease and a villain-victim dynamic that is anything but straightforward.
