The premise
One night Alice can't stand her husband anymore and she decides to leave him. It's a dark, rainy night and something smashes the windshield so Alice is forced to seek shelter in an old mansion. She is warmly welcomed but soon realises that strange things are happening. She tries to escape but it seems there's no way out.

After fleeing her marriage on a stormy night, Alice finds her path literally shattered and her only refuge a grand, enigmatic mansion whose gracious inhabitants mask something deeply wrong. What begins as reluctant hospitality slowly curdles into a waking nightmare as the estate's logic defies the natural world. Claude Chabrol's younger brother helps populate a cast of unsettling faces in this French art-horror curiosity that owes as much to Lewis Carroll as to gothic tradition. The harder Alice tries to leave, the more the house seems to close around her.
