The premise

An aging photographer's obsession with an early form of photography draws his assistant and daughter into a work of mystery.

Horror Vault's take

In a faded French manor, an eccentric photographer becomes consumed by his devotion to daguerreotype — a painstaking, life-sized photographic process — drawing his new assistant deeper into an increasingly disturbing world of artistic fixation. The line between subject and object, living and dead, begins to blur in ways that feel both deeply personal and quietly uncanny. Japanese filmmaker Kiyoshi Kurosawa brings his signature restrained dread to a European setting, crafting a ghost story that operates more on atmosphere and unease than overt scares. What begins as a romantic and artistic drama slowly reveals something far more haunted beneath its elegant surface.
