Apartment 13032007
“Open the door to the ultimate terror…”
Directed by Ataru Oikawa
The premise
While celebrating with her friends in her new cheaply rented apartment on the thirteenth floor of a building, the young Sayaka unexpectedly jumps off the balcony committing suicide. Her mother goes insane and her older sister, Mariko, decides to investigate the mysterious death of her sister.
Horror Vault's take
When a young woman plunges to her death from the balcony of a newly rented high-rise apartment, those closest to her refuse to accept it as a simple tragedy. Her older sister Mariko begins pulling at threads that lead somewhere deeply unsettling, uncovering a dark history tied to the building itself. Rooted in Japanese yurei tradition, the film layers quiet dread over a mystery that grows more disturbing the deeper Mariko digs. Fans of J-horror will recognise the slow-burn atmosphere and the particular menace of a spirit that will not rest.
