The premise

Matthew Barney's experimental opus unfolds as a hallucinatory gothic Western, weaving rodeo imagery, Mormon mythology, and body-as-landscape into a singular and deeply strange visual language. Drawing on the biology of fetal development as a structural metaphor, the film resists conventional narrative in favor of symbolic ritual and tension between equilibrium and partition. It is less a story to be followed than an experience to be absorbed — unsettling, operatic, and unlike anything else in the horror-adjacent canon. Viewers willing to surrender to its rhythms will find something genuinely haunting.
