When a group of film students set out to shoot a low-budget horror movie, the dead suddenly begin to rise and their fictional project transforms into a desperate real-world record of the outbreak. Armed with cameras and little else, they attempt to document the unraveling world around them — even as that choice puts them in danger. George A. Romero uses the found-footage conceit to probe uncomfortable questions about why we film catastrophe rather than simply survive it. The result is a zombie film as much about the lens between us and reality as it is about the undead.
