Newly wed and hopeful, Ellen Rimbauer soon discovers that the grand mansion gifted to her by her husband harbors far more than dusty corridors and old portraits. Set against the opulent yet suffocating backdrop of early twentieth-century society, the story unfolds through Ellen's personal diary as strange occurrences begin to erode the boundaries between the living and something far older. The house itself seems to breathe with malevolent intention, and Ellen's world slowly warps around her in ways she cannot easily explain or escape.
