The premise

London is terrorized by a vicious sex killer known as The Necktie Murderer. Following the brutal slaying of his ex-wife, down-on-his-luck Richard Blaney is suspected by the police of being the killer. He goes on the run, determined to prove his innocence.

Horror Vault's take

Alfred Hitchcock's late-career return to his British roots plunges viewers into a rain-soaked London gripped by fear of a sadistic strangler preying on women. When Richard Blaney's ex-wife becomes a victim, circumstantial evidence and bad luck conspire to make him the prime suspect in the eyes of Scotland Yard. Forced to flee while the real killer operates in plain sight, Blaney must navigate a city that has already condemned him. It's a taut, deliberately provocative thriller that strips away Hitchcock's usual glamour in favour of something rawer and more brutal.
