The premise

18th century justice catches up with a pair of grave robbers. With only a few hours to go before his date with the guillotine, Arthur Blake tells his life story to Father Francis Duffy. Before long, Arthur spills the beans on how he got started in the grim corpse peddling business with seasoned ghoul Willie Grimes.

Horror Vault's take

In 18th century England, condemned grave robber Arthur Blake whiles away his final hours before the guillotine by confessing the wild, increasingly strange details of his criminal career to a listening priest. What began as a grim but mundane trade in fresh corpses soon led Arthur and his roguish mentor Willie Grimes into encounters with things far worse — and far weirder — than ordinary death. Equal parts campfire yarn and macabre comedy, the film delights in piling on monsters, mayhem, and morbid humor across its anthology-style episodes. Fans of classic horror iconography will find plenty of familiar faces and loving nods to the genre's golden era.
