The premise
Opting to sleep in the allegedly-haunted guest house while spending a weekend in the Hamptons with friends, Ruth, a lonely young woman in her mid-twenties who's had too much to drink, strikes up a conversation that leads to a sexual encounter with Michael, a burlap-draped ghost that casually appears before her. Through this inter-paranormal relation, Ruth contracts an STD with alarming effects.

Ruth, a twenty-something adrift in her own social circle, stumbles into something stranger than a bad one-night stand when she hooks up with the ghost haunting her Hamptons guest house. What begins as an oddly tender, booze-blurred supernatural encounter quietly spirals into a waking nightmare with very physical consequences. Lace Crater wraps its body-horror dread in the deadpan rhythms of mumblecore, making the horrifying feel disarmingly mundane. It's a film that gets under your skin in more ways than one.
