The premise
Industrialist François Delambre is called late at night by his sister-in-law, Helene, who tells him that she has just killed her husband. Reluctant at first, she eventually explains to the police that he invented a matter transportation apparatus and, while experimenting on himself, a fly entered the chamber.
Horror Vault's take
A brilliant scientist's quest to master matter transportation takes a catastrophic turn when a tiny, unwanted passenger shares his experimental chamber — with monstrous results. Told largely through confession and flashback, this 1958 sci-fi horror classic balances genuine dread with an unexpectedly emotional love story. Vincent Price anchors a grounded, suspenseful investigation into what exactly went wrong inside that laboratory. The film's iconic imagery and tragic arc have cemented its place as one of the defining creature features of the golden age of horror.
