The premise
A Sydney lawyer defends five Aboriginal people in a ritualised taboo murder and in the process learns disturbing truths about himself and premonitions.

When a Sydney corporate lawyer takes on the defence of Aboriginal men accused in a mysterious ritual killing, he finds himself pulled into a world far older and stranger than the courtroom he knows. Haunted by vivid premonitions and increasingly erratic weather, he begins to question the boundaries between his rational life and something vast and unknowable lurking beneath it. Peter Weir crafts a slow-burn descent into myth and dread, where the urban certainties of 1970s Australia dissolve against the weight of a civilisation that never forgot its secrets. The film lingers long after the credits, asking uncomfortable questions about who truly understands the land they stand on.
