The premise
Daffy undead gal Penny Dreadful, her smitten zombie buddy Ned, and lycanthrope Wolfboy relate three tales of terror in an old rundown movie theater: A young couple find themselves being stalked by a lethal jack-in-the-box in "Slash-in-the-Box;" mousy young lady Alice tries to figure out what exactly happened to her last night in "The Morning After;" and a group of friends encounter an eccentric backwoods family after their van breaks down in the middle of nowhere in "The Slaughter House."
Horror Vault's take
A lovably ghoulish trio — undead hostess Penny Dreadful, her zombie admirer Ned, and the feral Wolfboy — welcome audiences to a crumbling picture palace for three deliriously trashy tales of terror. The segments range from a deadly childhood toy turned homicidal menace, to a young woman piecing together a deeply unsettling lost night, to a van-load of friends who stumble upon the wrong family in the backwoods. Channeling the spirit of grindhouse anthologies and late-night creature-feature TV hosts, the film revels in its own cheerful bad taste. Jeffrey Combs lends cult cachet to the proceedings, signaling exactly the flavor of horror-comedy on offer.
