The premise
Two journalists, Carlos and Lola, investigate the murder of a young woman whose body appeared with her heart torn out, in what seems to be a human sacrifice. The investigation leads the reporters to a museum, whose director is the famous Doctor Gallardo.
Horror Vault's take
When a young woman turns up dead with her heart torn out, two scrappy journalists smell a story that goes far deeper than a simple homicide. Their trail winds through shadowy corridors to a prestigious museum and its enigmatic director, raising unsettling questions about ancient Aztec rites lurking beneath modern Mexico City. Equal parts whodunit and comic romp, this 1939 Mexican production blends laughs with genuine macabre atmosphere. Fans of vintage horror-comedies will find a curio that balances slapstick charm with genuinely dark subject matter.
