The premise
On the eve of the 2001 outbreak, Natalia falls madly in love with her lifelong friend Diego. The romance is interrupted when he meets the more experienced Silvia. With the help of her grandma Rita, Natalia decides to call on incantations and curses to jinx Diego and Silvia's blossoming relationship.

Set against the charged backdrop of Argentina's tumultuous summer of 2001, a teenage girl's all-consuming first love curdles into something darker when a romantic rival appears. Guided by her grandmother's old-world knowledge, she reaches for incantations and curses to tip fate in her favour — only to discover that meddling with such forces rarely goes as planned. Part tender coming-of-age story, part folk-horror cautionary tale, the film weaves personal heartbreak into something genuinely uncanny. The quarry lake of the title looms over it all as a brooding, mythic presence.
