The premise

Based on the factual case of a young man who broke into a nurses' home in Chicago, mutilating and killing several of the inmates, Wakamatsu's film is a precise, sad delineation of a particular aspect of masculine sexual consciousness.

Horror Vault's take

Inspired by a real-life American atrocity, Japanese provocateur Kōji Wakamatsu turns a notorious mass killing into a stark, unflinching meditation on male violence and desire. A lone intruder traps a group of nurses, and what unfolds is less a conventional thriller than a cold, almost ritualistic examination of predatory consciousness. Shot with the austere intensity characteristic of the Japanese pink film underground, it strips the horror down to its psychological and ideological bones. Few films are this deliberately uncomfortable to sit with.
