The premise

A New York City cop and an expert criminologist trying to solve a series of grisly deaths in which the victims have seemingly been maimed by feral animals discover a sinister connection between the crimes and an old legend.

Horror Vault's take

In the crumbling, post-industrial landscape of 1980s New York City, a seasoned detective and a criminal psychologist find themselves drawn into a baffling series of brutal killings that defy conventional explanation. The savagery of the attacks points to something animal — yet the evidence keeps circling back to an ancient, unsettling myth. As the investigation deepens, the line between hunter and hunted begins to blur in ways neither protagonist anticipated. Wolfen is a slow-burn creature thriller that treats its monster with far more intelligence and respect than genre audiences might expect.
