The premise
A Seattle history professor, drawn back to his estranged family on the Oregon coast to execute his late mother's estate, is reacquainted with his best friend from childhood, with whom he has a long-awaited tryst. Caught in an accelerating series of events, he discovers aspects of his father's New Age cult which take on a dangerous and apocalyptic significance.

A Seattle academic reluctantly returns to his Oregon coastal hometown to settle his mother's estate, only to find himself entangled once more in the suffocating grip of his father's shadowy New Age congregation. As he reconnects with old bonds and buried desires, the world around him begins to feel increasingly wrong — and the cult's apocalyptic underpinnings far more literal than he ever imagined. Adapting Lovecraft's themes to a contemporary Pacific Northwest setting, the film trades creature spectacle for creeping dread and existential unease. What begins as a story of homecoming quietly mutates into something far darker and harder to escape.
