“Meet the maniac & his friend.”
Directed by Tobe Hooper
🏆 2 nominations
The premise
A psychotic redneck owns a dilapidated hotel in rural East Texas, where he murders those who upset him or his business, and then feeds their remains to his pet crocodile in the swamp beside his hotel.
Horror Vault's take
Deep in the bayous of East Texas, a crumbling roadside hotel harbors a proprietor whose grip on sanity is tenuous at best — and whose swamp-dwelling crocodile has developed a taste for human flesh. Director Tobe Hooper crafts a fever-dream of Southern Gothic dread, trapping a succession of unlucky guests in the orbit of a dangerously unhinged killer. With a lurid, sweat-soaked atmosphere and a cast stacked with exploitation-era talent, the film pushes viewers into a world where the natural and human threats are equally merciless. Escape feels impossibly far away when the monster is both the man and the beast outside the door.
Content: Graphic Violence, Animal Attack Sequences, Sexual Threat And Assault, Disturbing Depictions Of Mental Instability, Gore
