The premise
Sue Ann is a loner who keeps to herself in her quiet Ohio town. One day, she is asked by Maggie, a new teenager in town, to buy some booze for her and her friends, and Sue Ann sees the chance to make some unsuspecting, if younger, friends of her own.

When a lonely middle-aged woman nicknamed 'Ma' offers her basement as a party haven for a group of teenagers, it seems like an oddly generous arrangement — until her attachment to the group curdles into something far more dangerous. Beneath her eager-to-please exterior lies a well of buried grievances that the kids are wholly unprepared for. Director Tate Taylor harnesses Octavia Spencer's magnetic screen presence to craft a character-driven thriller where the real monster looks completely ordinary.
