The premise

A record store clerk is an obsessed fan of an actress of stage and screen. However, when faced with rejection, the fan strikes out in increasingly violent ways.

A young man's fervent admiration for a celebrated stage actress curdles into something far darker when his devotion goes unreciprocated. What begins as a flood of fan letters gradually escalates into a chilling campaign of violence that closes in on its glamorous target. The film uses the glittering world of Broadway as an unlikely backdrop for mounting dread, contrasting high society with a very personal, very dangerous threat. Lauren Bacall anchors the tension as a woman slowly realizing the nightmare she cannot simply walk offstage from.
