The premise
A brilliant but deranged neurosurgeon becomes obsessively fixated on a judge's daughter. With the help of an escaped criminal whose face he has surgically deformed, the mad man lures her, her father, and her fiancé to his isolated, castle-like home.

A celebrated but deeply unhinged surgeon fixates dangerously on a young woman, using his surgical skill as a weapon to bend others to his will. He lures his unwitting victims to a grim, castle-like estate filled with deadly contraptions inspired by the tortured poetry of Edgar Allan Poe. Universal horror icons Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi face off in a clash of monstrous egos, delivering deliciously sinister performances. This pre-Code chiller remains a showcase of gothic atmosphere and grand, theatrical villainy.
