The premise
A magician who has been turned into a raven turns to a former sorcerer for help.
Horror Vault's take
Roger Corman's tongue-in-cheek romp takes the flimsiest of premises — a magician cursed into the form of a raven — and turns it into a showcase for three of horror's greatest icons trading barbs and spells. Vincent Price, Boris Karloff, and Peter Lorre share the screen with gleeful chemistry, turning what could have been a straight Gothic chiller into something closer to a comedy of magical manners. Loosely inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's immortal poem, this is less a faithful adaptation than a playful send-up of the sorcery genre, culminating in a wildly theatrical magical duel. Catch it also for an early appearance from a pre-fame Jack Nicholson.
